Financial Aid
Funds are now available for high school graduates attending the Mississippi Summer Developmental Program. What are the eligibility
requirements?
Applicant must:
Be a Mississippi resident;
Be accepted as a first time attendee of the Summer Developmental Program at an eligible institution;
Not be in default on a federal or state educational loan or owe a repayment on a federal or state grant;
Meet general eligibility admission requirements into the Mississippi Summer Developmental Program and be eligible to receive student financial aid;
Complete the current year Free Application for Federal Student Aid; and Demonstrate financial need after all other grant/gift aid is awarded.
What documents will I be required to provide?
In order to document your Mississippi residency, we require at a minimum one (1) of the following documents: a copy of your parent’s current year State of Mississippi tax return; a photocopy of your parent’s valid Mississippi driver license.
Because you must demonstrate financial need, the electronic results from having completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid must be received by our office prior to the deadline date for enrollment in the Mississippi Summer Developmental Program.
A copy of the acceptance letter for the Summer Developmental Program must be provided prior to an award. While you will not be required to provide a paper application you must complete the online application which may be found at www.ihl.state.ms.us/financialaid/default.asp by the published deadline date.
Other documents not listed here may be required to resolve conflicting information.
How will I be notified if I am awarded?
Once we receive all the documents necessary to determine eligibility we will notify you of a grant offer by an Award Letter. We will also be in contact with your school regarding your award.
What is the award amount of my grant?
Each award will be dependent upon your demonstrated financial need (as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid) minus all other gift and grant aid. No grant will exceed financial need or the cost of attendance. This is a non-renewal scholarship.
When should I apply and what is the deadline?
You may apply online at www.ihl.state.ms.us/financialaid/ beginning January 1 each year. The deadline for applying is the
established deadline date for enrollment in the Summer Developmental Program.
